The Danube Dialogues, a festival of contemporary art of the Danube countries, was first launched in 2012 by the Bel Art Gallery<\/a>, Novi Sad, in conjunction with the Erlin Gallery<\/a>, Budapest. It was housed in the Petrovaradin Fortress on the left bank of the Danube and consisted of four exhibitions showing the works of one Hungarian and one Serbian artist.<\/p>

By the time the first official festival - Danube Dialogues 2013 - was held in Novi Sad and Petrovaradin, it featured 40 programmes involving 80 artists from 10 countries.<\/p>

The underlying idea of the festival is for each country to showcase its current artistic scene via curators\u2019 exhibitions. Apart from these, there are other exhibitions and programmes such as performances, video shows, round tables and workshops in which artists from all round the region take part.<\/p>

A particular feature of the festival are the art dialogues: small exhibitions in which works chosen by the selectors serve to highlight the relationship of the art of an artist (or artists) from one of the Danube countries to that of Serbian artists, and the intercommunication between them.<\/p>

The exhibitions and programmes take place in various galleries and other locations on both banks of the Danube in Novi Sad and Petrovaradin, all within the pedestrian zone.\u00a0The heart of the city thus provides the scene for a unique event which has made Novi Sad an important venue for artistic creativity in this European region.<\/p>
